Here are 5 foods that people with abdominal pain should avoid eating to protect the stomach.



Garlic is considered as one of the very good foods for heart health. However, if you are suffering from abdominal pain, you should restraint eating garlic. Because garlic contains fructan - a compound that can cause stomach and intestinal problems, and causing bloating. However, when the stomach is not painful, you can still enjoy some garlic if you like. Especially, eating cooked garlic will reduce the damage to your stomach.


Coffee has a high acidity, which can irritate the abdominal wall and cause abdominal pain. In addition, caffeine in coffee can cause stomach acid production, causing ulcers and more severe pain. Therefore, if you do not want to make stomach pain worse,  you should limit the intake of coffee. If you like drinking coffee, just drink a little. You should not drink coffee when you are hungry, which can cause serious abdominal pain.

Dairy products

You may be surprised to learn that at least 65% of the population do not tolerate lactose. That means they lose the ability to digest lactose – a type of a sugar in milk. And if you belong to the ‘lactose intolerant’ people, milk can cause major problems for the digestive system. Symptoms include bloating, indigestion, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Therefore, when you drink milk that you have other symptoms, you should stay away from dairy products. In particular, you should not drink milk when you are hungry because it will damage the stomach.

Spicy food

Spicy spices can increase the amount of acid in the stomach and cause gastritis to become worse. Moreover, spicy foods also cause stomach irritation, causing inflammation in the stomach to become serious and cause ulcers. Therefore, if the stomach is weak, avoid spicy foods to protect your stomach.

Kinds of beans


Most beans contain a type of sugar called alpha-galactosidase, belonging to a group of carbohydrates called FODMAPs. As for healthy people, FODMAPs only provide ‘fuel’ for digestive microbes that are beneficial and do not cause any problems. However, for those with gastrointestinal or abdominal pain, consuming beans will cause bloating, indigestion, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Therefore, if you have stomach pain, you should avoid eating too many beans at the same time. If you eat, you should only enjoy a few times to consume beans faster and easier, and protect  the stomach as well as the digestive system.
