XXXTentacion dominates Billboard Hot 100 after passing away
XXXTentacion’s fans were heartbroken after his death in Florida on June 18. So last week, they streamed and bought the late rapper's song to the top to commemorate him. On the Billboard Hot 100, the single "Sad!" of XXXTentacion jumped from #52 to #1. This is the first time "Sad!" topped the Hot 100. This song also rose to #7 on March 31.
XXXTentacion is also the first artist in the past 20 years to top the Hot 100 after his death with a song he plays the lead role. The previous star with the same achievement was The Notorious B.I.G. with "Mo Money Mo Problems" in 1997.
"Sad!" also tops the stream chart and reaches #5 on Billboard's digital sales chart. The song comes from album "?" which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 on March 31.
After the heartbreaking death of the 20-year-old star, sales of his tracks have increased rapidly. A few days ago, on Amazon's digital music chart, the two albums of XXXTentacion were No. 1 and No.2. His newest album "?" released in March increased 41,306% in just a few hours. The sales of the other album, "17", increased by nearly 9,000%. Not only digital music, XXXTentacion’s CD sales also increased. He held No. 2 and No.3 on Amazon's chart when "?" sales increased 542.566% and "17" sales increased 54.057%.
XXXTentacion songs were also dominating the US iTunes chart. The song "Sad!" from his latest album was No.1. Another song, "changes", was No.5. Album "?" appeared at No.3, and album "17" was also on the No.5 on iTunes album chart.
Not only that, XXXTentacion also broke Taylor Swift's record for one day's stream on Spotify. According to Billboard, one day after the rapper passed away at the age of 20, his song "Sad!" broke the record for the most streamed song in one day on Spotify that Taylor Swift made with "Look What You Made Me Do". In particularly, the song was streamed 10.4 million times on the June 19, surpassing "Look What You Made Me Do" with 10.1 million times on the day the hit was released on August 25 last year.
Earlier in May, Spotify once removed "Sad!" out of their playlist after XXXTentacion was accused of some crimes like domestic violence and bribing witnesses, although he had yet to officially be convicted. But after his death, Spotify has taken the song back with a few words to tribute the late rapper.
