The Rock receives base pay of tens of millions of dollar

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” actor has shown that he deserves one of the biggest action stars today when receiving a payment of $22 millions and a great profit from the latest project "Red Notice".

According to a term sheet of Johnson's that mirrored the final deal for the upcoming Universal movie "Red Notice" that The Wall Street Journal obtained, Johnson would earn $22 million to star in the movie, plus earn profits pending the movie's performance at the box office. This is a very dream number because not many Hollywood stars get such a high payment.

The $22 million for Johnson is broken down to $21 million base pay and $1 million for Johnson's "social media support" towards the movie, according to the Journal.

In regards to any profits on the movie, the producers - Johnson is one of them - and director Rawson Marshall Thurber ("Central Intelligence" and upcoming Johnson movie "Skyscraper") will receive 50%. That 50% will be split up, with Johnson receiving 30%, Thurber receiving 10%, and the other producers on the movie getting 10%.

And that's not all.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

To put that in perspective, if a similar deal was made for Sony's "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" - which was made for $90 million and has now grossed over $931 million - Johnson would have pocketed tens of millions of dollars after his base pay. If The Rock has a similar contract with Jumanji, he will receive about $ 28.24 million of base pay.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, A-list stars Julia Roberts and Will Smith received more than $ 20 million per movie. However, stars’ power has fallen dramatically in Hollywood today. Studios can no longer rely on the celebs’ reputation to attract the audience.

The rare exception is Robert Downey Jr., the number one star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the role of Iron Man. And The Rock, 45, has also confirmed his position in the film industry after a string of blockbusters including Jumanji ($ 931 million), The Fate of the Furious ($ 1.23 billion), Moana ($ 643 million), San Andreas ($ 474 million) ...

The only film of The Rock that did not reach high sales over the past time is Baywatch. The Rampage blockbuster scheduled to be released on April 13 is also expected to gain high gross. In 2018, he also starred in the movie Skyscraper and Fighting with My Family.

In 2019, The Rock will star in the DC superhero blockbuster Shazam ! Universal will release the Red Notice in June, 2020.
