09 interesting must-see movies of Sony in 2018

Following the success of "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle," Sony has been focusing on "Spider-Man", as well as the sequel of the previous blockbuster movies.


Peter Rabbit:

Based on the character created by Beatrix Potter for children, Peter Rabbit follows naughty Peter (is voiced by James Corden). He and his friends always had to deal with the McGregor family, especially the son Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson). The story suddenly becomes troublesome when there is the appearance of Bea (Rose Byrne). Beautiful girl is animal lover. Thomas falls in love with her, but at the same time wants to "eradicate" Peter Rabbit. 


Sicario 2: Soldado:

Following the success of Sicario (2015), scriptwriter Taylor Sheridan continues to write the second part for the film. He now works with director Stefano Sollima, instead of Denis Villeneuve. The story revolves around a bloody fight against drugs in the US-Mexico border, with two central characters, Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro). 


Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation:

In contrast to the previous two episodes, the third installment of the series will hit theaters in the summer. It revolves around the memorable vampire Dracula (Adam Sandler) the daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), and the family of Johnny (Adam Samberg). This time, Dracula falls in love with a mysterious woman while not knowing that she is the descendant of vampire hunter Van Helsing. Hotel Transylvania's previous two parts have earned Sony more than $ 820 million. 


The Equalizer 2:

The Equalizer's $ 190 million revenue (2014) made Sony decide to make a sequel to CIA agent- Robert McCall. The project marked the first time director Antoine Fuqua made the film the next part of his career. He revealed that he succeeded in convincing Denzel Washington to return with a more attractive script, with a much wider context than the first. 



Although Spider-Man appears in the MCU, Sony still holds the rights to Spider-Man on the big screen. Without making a movie about spider superhero, they now focus on exploiting the story of Peter Parker's enemies. The first part of film revolves around Venom (Tom Hardy) - reporter Eddie Brock suddenly possessed supernatural powers thanks to mysterious symbiosis outside the universe. 


Goosebumps: Horrorland:

“Goosebumps” (2015) is a comedy-horror movie based on the well-known series of the same name by writer R.L. Stine. After deliberation, Sony decided to let comedian Jack Black continue to play Stine in the second part – “Goosebumps: Horrorland”.  


The Girl in Spider's Web:

The film is actually the fourth installment of the Millennium novel series. The two main characters in the movie - female hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist - played by Claire Foy and Sverrir Gudnason. The film directed by Fede Álvarez – the director of “Don’t Breathe” (2016).  


Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse:

Sony has another attempt to exploit the Spider-Man brand this year. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is animated, and focuses on colored-skin character - Miles Morales (Shameik Moore).  


Holmes and Watson:

This is a comical version of the famous duo detective: Sherlock Holmes - Dr. John Watson, played by two comedians Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. “Holmes and Watson” was actually planned for 10 years ago, but it was not until 2016 that Sony officially turned on the "green light". The project was directed by Etan Cohen.
