Ford Escape 2020: Smarter, more spacious, new Focus-like design
Ahead of the New York Motor Show 2019, Ford unveiled the new crossover model of Escape. Entering the 4th generation, Ford Escape is safer, smarter and more versatile than before.
Exterior of the Ford Escape 2020
The Escape 2020 is based on Ford's new C2 global platform. Thus, this size C-sized crossover is 90 kg lighter than the older generation and also provides a more spacious interior space, improving aerodynamics as well as safety and 10% torsional rigidity.
On the outside, the Ford Escape 2020 looks smaller than the old generation. However, in fact, the length and width of this C-sized crossover model have all been increased in the new generation.
Ford Escape 2020 possesses a design inspired by the Focus new generation. Wheelbase increased, longer bonnet, steep rear windshield and lower roof made for a smoother appearance for Ford's best-selling crossover model. On the top of the Ford Escape 2020 appears a trapezoidal grille, inspired by the 6th generation Mustang. Meanwhile, the lower part is borrowed from the 2018 Ford GT supercar.
Interior of the Ford Escape 2020
As mentioned above, the Ford Escape 2020 is longer and wider than the old generation. Therefore, it is not surprising that the interior of this model is also expanded. The second row of the Ford Escape 2020 even offers more legroom than the large Chevrolet Suburban SUV. Not only that, but the second row of this model can also slide up / down conveniently. Behind this second row of seats is a luggage compartment of 1,061 liters.
The Ford Escape 2020 is more comfortable and more technological than before. Among them, the most advanced Titanium version has an information display on a completely new windshield. This is also the first Ford model in the North American market with this equipment.
In addition to the full digital clock panel with a 12.3-inch screen, the SYNC 3 infotainment system comes with an 8-inch touch screen and smart connectivity to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Ford Alexa, and Waze positioning. Next is the standard FordPass Connect system, which provides Wi-Fi 4G LTE for 10 mobile devices on the car. Finally, this model has 10-speaker B&O audio system with a capacity of 575 W, wireless smartphone charging and active sound insulation technology.
The engine of the Ford Escape 2020
In the US market, the Ford Escape 2020 has 4 different engine options. The first is a 3-cylinder, turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine, completely new 1.5-liter capacity for low-end models like S, SE, and SEL. The second is a 4-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, with a new 2.0-liter capacity for Titanium. The Ford Escape 2020's third engine option in the US market is a hybrid system, including a completely new 2.5-liter Atkinson Cycle, 2.5-liter engine, and E-CVT gearbox. The last one is the plug-in hybrid system, for the three versions of Ford Escape 2020, except for the standard S and SE Sport.
Safety equipment of the Ford Escape 2020
Not only has the new solid pedestal base, but the Ford Escape 2020 is also equipped with safety equipment such as Active Park Assist 2.0, steering assistance, Ford semi-automatic steering Co-Pilot360 standard, and adaptive cruise control.
Currently, the price of the Ford Escape 2020 has not been announced. This model has 5 versions equipped with S, SE, SE Sport, SEL and Titanium. The opponent of Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4, and Mazda CX-5 will be available in the US market this fall.
