Harmful effects of late dinner that you ought to know
After a tiring day of work, dinner helps us recharge, regain our energy. But due to the busy work, many people do not even have enough time for dinner. They only think about having dinner after finishing their work. However, not many people know that late dinner is way more dangerous than we notice.
Here are a few things that late dinner might cause to your health:
Risk of obesity
Late dinner is one of the main causes of weight gain. By this time, the metabolism slows down. So, if you eat late, the food will be hard to digest and not be used to create energy. Instead, it will convert into unhealthy fat, leading to weight gain, obesity.
People who are trying to lose weight should eat at least 2 hours before bedtime. If you still want to eat before going to bed, choose fruit, vegetables or low-fat products.
Most people with late-dinner habits often experience digestive problems such as heartburn and acid reflux. The reason is the time between dinner and sleep is shortened. When you sleep, acid in your stomach will reflux into your esophagus, causing discomfort.
Eating early, at the right time will help the digestive system have enough time to handle food well before you go to bed.
Poor sleep quality
Many studies have shown that late supper decreases your sleep quality. Digestion at bedtime affects the cycle of sleep, which makes you wake up more often at night and less likely to go to sleep again.
If you consume a lot of sugar or fried foods, it can have a negative effect on your sleep. Have a cup of hot milk or chrysanthemum tea to help you sleep better.
High blood pressure
The high content of meat in the dinner will cause the stomach and intestines to work hard, leading to high blood pressure and complications.
Many people go to bed right after finishing their dinner. This will cause serious harm, because when you sleep the blood circulation in your body will slow down, and the remaining blood will cling to the wall of the arteries, causing atherosclerosis.
A late dinner accompanied by alcohol and immediate sleep will easily cause stroke, especially when your body is not strong enough.
In 2011, a study showed that late supper leaded to a high risk of stroke. Instead, make sure you sleep at least 60-70 minutes after meals, then the probability of stroke can be reduced by 66%.
Eating too late and too much will reduce the amount of insulin produced. Normally, blood glucose is controlled by insulin, which reduces blood sugar. The lack of insulin will cause hyperglycemia, leading to diabetes.
Late dinner causes the body's organs to concentrate on processing the new food. Your body must digest, absorb nutrients throughout the night, so there is no time for the brain and other organs to regenerate for the next day. That is why you feel tired and lazy after waking up the next morning.
