Regardless, the Wallcrawler's latest movie just edged out last year’s epic super fight between the two popular DC Comics heroes at the domestic box office, and it still has about another month to go before it bows.
According to Box Office Mojo, by September 20, the latest Spider-Man movie earned $330.7 million and passed the 'Batman v Superman' blockbuster with $330.4 million. Therefore, Spider-Man: Homecoming, the result of Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios new deal to include the popular character in the MCU, has occupied the 50th place of the highest-grossing-film list in BvS's North American box office history.
This is an impressive summer of superhero movies in North America. DC's new blockbuster Wonder Woman has grossed more than $411 million domestically, making it the highest grossing film in the region. The second place is Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with $390 million.
Spider-Man: Homecoming currently sits at $861 million, and $531 comes from the international market. The film just debuted in China on September 8 where it opened to $69 million in its first weekend. It currently sits at $104 million after its second weekend in theaters, so it has some legs.
It’s already surpassed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the Middle Kingdom; the Zack Snyder film made $95.7 million total at the Chinese box office.

The domestic box office gross of the Spider-Man franchise has never been less than $300 million. Released in 2007, Spider-Man 3 was at number 46 on the domestic chart with $336.5 million while Spider-Man 2 (2004) was at No. 33 with $373.6 million.
Meanwhile, the highest-grossing film in the series, Spider-Man's first version released in 2002, came in at No. 24 on the list with $ 403.7 million.

Shortly after its debut, Spider-Man: Homecoming was highly regarded for its content and image. Marvel is starting the next episode of Homecoming, scheduled to hit theaters in 2019 after the Avengers 4.
Besides, Sony is also about to launch other spinoff parts of Spider-Man.
It’s an impressive first outing for the new partnership between Marvel and Sony, and a strong indication that it's just the beginning of a long-running Spider-Man franchise.
Spider-Man: Homecoming releases to Digital HD on September 26, followed by Blu-ray and DVD on October 17.
However, Marvel's victory will soon be threatened by DC's upcoming blockbuster Justice League, which is scheduled to release on November 16 this year.
