'Rampage' to be released one week earlier due to 'Avengers 3'
After Disney and Marvel Studios decided to launch “Avengers: Infinity War” around the world on April 27th, a series of films produced by their rival studios have immediately changed their release date.
More notably, New Line and Warner Bros. will also have a earlier screening for Rampage. Instead of April 20, the science fiction monster movie which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and many monsters is set to screened from April 13.
Some sources claim that Rampage producers want to reach their expected gross in the first two weeks of release and do not want to confront a giant project like the Avengers: Infinity War. The new release strategy of the film is also applied to many markets around the world.
Released early on April 13, Rampage must compete with more strong opponents, including Avengers: Infinity War. Picture: Warner Bros.
Rampage is released a week earlier than its original schedule, which makes the week of April 13 extremely busy. Other films debuted at the same time are Universal's Truth or Dare, Amy Poehler's comedy I Feel Pretty, the drama The Miracle Season, the biographical sports drama film Borg Vs. McEnroe and computer-animated feature film Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero.
Rampage, which adapts the 1986 arcade game of the same name, brings star Johnson back together with his San Andreas director Brad Peyton. The film focuses on Johnson's Davis Okoye, a primatologist tasked with saving the country after three genetically modified beasts (a gorilla, wolf, and crocodile) unleash fury and chaos upon unsuspecting cityscapes and their citizens. The movie also features Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, P.J. Byrne, Marley Shelton, and Matt Gerald.
Rampage is scheduled to be released on April 13.
Get filled in on the basic plot of Rampage before you see it in theaters on April 13: "Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster.
To make matters worse, it's soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend."
