'Jigsaw' to be the premise for the sequels of horror movie series
After seven years, Lionsgate finally brought the Saw brand back to the big screen with Jigsaw (2017) and seems to be planning for the 9th season. While promoting the release of the film's DVD, Peter Spierig and Michael Spierig have revealed that “Jigsaw” contains many implications for future sequels.
"There's a lot of Jigsaw stuff that we've discussed as to whether it could grow in the future, so we have a lot of ideas and characters to use for some upcoming movies. A work that brings a satisfying experience to the audience in terms of storyline, but also wants to leave some questions about the characters, the story around them as well as many unexplained details. Do the audiences want to see more? Do they care about the survivors and sometimes the dead characters can also appear in another "Saw" movie? There's always a section for flashbacks.
These terrible traps continue to scare the world.
Spierig brothers have begun performing the eighth part in July 2016, with Tobin Bell returning as John Kramer / Jigsaw, along with new faces including Laura Vandervoort, Matt Passmore, Callum Keith Rennie, Hannah Anderson, Brittany Allen, Tina Jung and Sonia Dhillon.
Despite of not being a blockbuster, "Jigsaw" climbed to the top rank in late October last year with $ 16.6 million in its first week. The film grossed $ 38 million in North America and $ 102.9 million worldwide compared to a $ 10 million budget. Although it hasn’t made a big hit, the movie under “Saw” brand is quite profitable because the budget is always kept as low as possible.
The masked killer (Jigsaw) brought Lionsgate nearly $ 1 billion.
Although no official information has been released yet, a report last month has suggested that the production company - Twisted Pictures intends to extend the series with "Saw" season 9. This could boost the brand's sales to more than $ 1 billion worldwide with total sales of the previous eight films reaching $ 976.2 million. Tobin Bell even revealed in an interview that he was ready to return as a masked killer, although Lionsgate didn’t show signs of green light on the project.
New movie – “Winchester”, about the mysterious Winchester home of Northern California, directed by Spierig brothers will be released in North America this weekend. Undead, the two directors of “Daybreakers” and “Predestination” have no new projects so they can make “Saw” season 9.
