8 of the most disappointing movies in the first half of 2018

The first half of 2018 has gone through with lots of movies worth billions of dollars but also the bombs with flickering sales, losses and disappointing quality.

The new Star Wars movie is one of the movie's most disappointing films. With a budget of nearly $ 250 million, the film has now grossed $ 344 million. The revenue of the movie directed by Ron Howard is less than the movies in 1980s. Replacing the iconic Harrison Ford with Alden Ehrenreich is a risky adventure, contributing to the failure of Lucasfilm blockbuster.

2. A Wrinkle in Time

Possessing a fragmented and superficial script, Walt Disney's fictional movie is only suitable for children. the movie was invested with a very high budget, up to more than 130 million dollars but only earned enough money to pay (not to mention the cost of promotion). The film stars Oprah Winfrey as the first failed step of Walt Disney this year.

3. Early Man

The animated film about "prehistoric football" earned just over $ 53 million nationwide (of which only $ 8.2 million was domestic). Meanwhile, the film has a budget of up to $ 50 million.

Nick Park's stop-motion film, directed by Eddie Redmayne, starred Tom Hiddleston in the laughter of children but did not really reach the top of the content like many other Walt Disney’s animated films.

4. Annihilation

annihilation

The science fiction film starring Natalie Portman has cost about $ 40 million but earned less than $ 33 million. The film lost more than $ 10 million not including the cost of communication, promotion. The film directed by director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Dredd) is not widely screened in cinemas that are released in many parts of the world via Netflix.

5. Death Wish

The action with the participation of action star Bruce Willis and a budget of about $ 30 million earned only $ 48 million. This is considered a disappointment because the work is expected to make a big push on the box office. The re-launch of Bruce Willis's “Death Wish” did not have much of a breakthrough from the original film in 1974. Director Eli Roth had a huge success with $ 80.6 million based on only $ 5 million for expenses.

6. Gotti

A biopic of crime boss John Gotti played by actor John Travolta has been projected since 2010. Overcoming many obstacles in the production process by changing the directors, actors and script, the movie has recently released. However, contrary to the expectations of many, the work with a budget of $ 10 million only earned less than $ 2 million. The film was badly disguised and received zero marks on the Rotten Tomatoes.

7. Sherlock Gnomes

MGM's animated films starring Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt and Mary J. Blige have a budget of nearly $ 60 million. However, despite the high expectations, the film only grossed more than $ 80 million, which can be considered a capital offset with the accumulation of advertising costs.

8. Hurricane Heist

The film about natural disaster mixed with genres of theft action is a quite interesting topic but was shown unsuccessfully. At $ 35 million in the budget, the film grossed just over $ 6 million worldwide. This is a forgotten number of director Rob Cohen, one of the famous names from the two films - “XXX” and “Fast & Furious”.
