8 great stars never winning an Oscar (Part I)
There are a surprising number of big name actors who haven't won an Academy Awards including black actor Will Smith.
Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar in his career with The Revenant (2015), and it was his fifth acting nomination. However, Amy Adams seems to be less fortunate than Leo. After five Oscar races with Junebug (2005), Doubt (2008), The Fighter (2010), The Master (2012) and American Hustle (2013), the star always came home with nothing in hand, in part because of her strong opponents. Last year, many fans of the science fiction Arrival (2016) could not understand why Amy Adams did not even reach the top 5 nominations for Best Actress category at the Oscars 2017. However, Adams won two Golden Globe.
Michelle Williams has emerged as a bright name for acting for over a decade. The 37-year-old has been received four Oscar nominations with Brokeback Mountain (2005), Blue Valentine (2010), My Week with Marilyn (2011), and Manchester by the Sea (2016). However, the Academy has not given the golden statue to Williams yet. Both The Greatest Showman (2017) and All the Money in the World (2017) are not big hits this season. As a result, Michelle Williams must continue to raise hopes for the next projects.
At age 40, Jessica Chastain is extremely energetic. She may be featured in some of “disastrous film projects” such as The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016) but at the same time she captured heart of audiences and critics through high-quality works such as The Tree of Life (2011) The Help (2011), Zero Dark Thirty (2012), The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (2013), Interstellar (2014), A Most Violent Year (2014)... She received two Oscar nominations for The Help and Zero Dark Thirty, but failed. Still, her fans firmly believe that for the beauty, receiving an Oscar is just a matter of time.
The son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, Gyllenhaal began acting at the age of ten. It is strange that Jake Gyllenhaal has been one of the coolest actors in Hollywood for the last 15 years but he received the only Oscar nomination for his gay cowboy Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain (2005). He has tried to transform himself over each project, such as Prisoners (2013), Nightcrawler (2014), Southpaw (2015), Stronger (2017), or even Okja (2017). After all, Oscars and the Golden Globes have been still ignoring Jake Gyllenhaal's remarkable efforts.
